Description
I used to buy the smaller containers of Bar Keepers Friend, but I found that the larger, 21 oz container was more economical. However, I found that because I used it so sparingly, the container lasts a very long time. Sadly, over the course of multiple years, the metal bottom starts to rust, being so close to the kitchen sink, where most people will keep this. And because it's so close to the sink, where there's water, the power ends up getting a little wet over time, and this wet and dry makes the holes close up, and it's not very easy to use after a while.
This is one of my earlier 3D design pieces, and I've found over the years that I tend to design functional pieces, and add attractive elements afterward. For example, I don't like corners and edges poking me, so I added a filet to the top, but I also like the idea of having a little more “grip” on the top and bottom, so I added a nice knurling to the edges. A simple pattern but effective.
If you print the bottom right, it should just barely slide on and stay in-place. The top should be loose enough that you can pull it off one-handed. It's really just there to cover the top, so water doesn't get in between uses. If you want it a little tighter, simply print the bottom as the top, increase the size a little, and you can probably find a nice balance between too tight (bottom) and just right (need too hands to remove). But as given, there are three versions, depending on what you need. You can absolutely scale these pieces up and down in your slicer, in case your slicer and/or printer decide to make them too tight or too loose.
The first time I printed this, it was 2017, and I just reprinted the top and bottom for the same container! So if you print these right, they should last a long time.
Overall, this is one of my favorite pieces, as I use the resulting items daily. As always, if you have any questions, comments, suggestions or concerns, please share them in the comments below. And, of course, I love to see your makes, so if you make this, please take a picture or two, and share an official make!
