Description

This door holder attaches to the bottom screw of the upper door hinges and operates similarly to the way your car door operates.  It has detents that hold the door at specific positions (90, 135, and 180 degrees).  The door hinges have enough vertical play to allow the door to lift slightly as it passes over the raised bumps on the door holder, then it drops back down into the detents.  Since the door holder mounts over the existing enclosure hinge, it requires a longer (12mm) screw rather than the original 8mm screw.

2023-08-23 Update: An alternate shape (V4) has been added.  You can print either the original V3 model with a rounded front, or the new V4 model with a chamfered front.  Due to the added chamfer on the front and other dimension modifications, the V4 model can be printed without supports when oriented with the chamfer on the build plate.  Functionally, V3 and V4 are the same; it’s just a matter of which shape you like better.

2023-09-09 Update: Re-uploaded the V4 .stl files with the chamfered face down on the build plate to match the orientation shown in the .3mf file.

Required Parts:

2x  M3x12mm screws

Printing Notes:

  • Print using PETG at 0.15mm layer height, with 15% gyroid infill.
  • V3 requires supports.  Automatically generated organic supports introduced in PrusaSlicer V2.6 work very well and snap off easily without any cleanup.  If any support material remains on the flat surface that faces the hinge, remove it so that the the door holder will not protrude too far from the enclosure and interfere with rotation of the door.
  • V4 requires no supports when the chamfered side faces down.

Installation Procedure:

  1. Remove the bottom screw from the upper enclosure hinge.  The screw will not be reused, but the nut will.
  2. While holding the hinge against the enclosure, use the screw to pull the nut from the hinge.
  3. Press the nut into the printed door holder.
  4. Place the printed door holder on the enclosure hinge.  The door holder will self-align with the hinge.
  5. Attach the door holder using an M3x12mm screw.  Make sure the door holder is level before fully tightening the screw.
  6. Move the door through its full range of motion a few times to make sure it opens smoothly.
