Description
Refreshing our old deck, floor planks are still in good enough shape but they have shrunk, and 4x4 posts have twisted a bit over time. Adding trim pieces at the bottom of the posts makes them look cleaner.
I didn't want a model that requires fasteners or external parts for assembly, so I made a connector piece. Face the connector towards a hidden side of the post and the connection will be almost invisible.
I printed in black Overture PETG, with 4 perimeter walls to avoid showing the infill pattern on the outside surface. No supports.
Not sure how long black PETG will last under direct sunlight, but it will certainly hold much longer than PLA, and PETG doesn't require an enclosure.
If your printer setup allows for it. ASA may be a better choice for an outdoor model.
Edit - 2023-08-24: added upper trim, to hide unsightly gaps where the post meets the drink rail. This one screws into the top plank with #6 - 1" screws.
