Bike Bottle Cage Storage Container (0.9L)

Motivation

I wanted a storage container to hold my spare inner tube, tire wrenches, patch kit, and mini pump on my bike that was easy to take with me if I parked my bike somewhere. Most similar products I found online weren't long enough to fit my 24cm long pump, so I made my own printable version.

Details

The outer diameter of the capsule is 73mm, and the inner diameter is 70mm except for the middle throat with the screw threads, which has a 68mm ID. The overall length when closed is 250mm, and internal length is 247mm. The external dimensions are similar to those of a large water bottle.

There is no indent in the capsule because my bottle cages don't have an upper tab, and I felt like having the indent in the capsule made it harder to get things in and out of the container. I use printed bottle cages that grip the capsule pretty well, and you can also wrap some rubber bands/grip tape around it to prevent it from sliding around.

Printing Tips

• These should be pretty easy to print, there are no severe overhangs.
• There are screw threads, but they are pretty large, so they should be printable.
• I've tested with 0.15mm and 0.2mm layer heights, both were able to be screwed/unscrewed smoothly.
• There is a bit of build in tolerance in the interfacing parts, but if the screw doesn't work for you, you can try scaling the parts in x/y or adjusting the extrusion multiplier.
• I would recommend printing with a less brittle material than PLA, though your mileage may vary. I printed my parts from ASA and haven't had any issues.
