Description
The Ninebot max G2 is a great kick scooter and already has good indicator lights built into the steering bar ends. The downside is that those indicators are hardly visible from behind because the driver blocks them from view.
Since the very first kickstarter campaign I own Lumos helmets that have integrated controllable LED lights that can work as Indicator lights as well. Their newest products are called firefly and are wireless but very bright mobile LED lights that are well integrated in the wireless Lumos ecosystem and can be controlled with a tiny remote you can attach to the steering bar next to the built in indicator switches.
But there is no product that lets you mount the fireflies to the Ninebot scooter. My design just snaps on tightly to the rear fender. No screw or glue is used to mount the holder to the fender. It sits there absolutely tight and won’t come off accidentally though it can be removed without leaving a mark on the fender If you don’t want the indicators anymore.
The picture to the right shows the function. The Matrix helmet is placed on the footrest for demonstration purposes.
This is the model of the firefly mount:
What you need besides the 3D printable parts mentioned below::
* two firefly lights
* one remote for the steering bar
* one or two charging cradles
* optional but highly recommended is a Lumos helmet ( in my case the MATRIX version.
and a smartphone for the Lumos App to program and adjust the light system (free app for iOS and Android)
Those lights are not cheap but absolutely worth the money. Remember: it’s about your personal safety!
You need the following metal parts for assembly:
To make the mount easily printable I divided it into three parts:
1: The clamp which sits tight on the fender
2: The mounting bar which consist of two parts to make it printable without supports. There is an alternative bar with one flat side that can be printed in one piece.
I made the bar with two Prusa orange ends for better visibility (but there is a monochrome version for download aswell).
The two parts of the bar will come together with the two screws that mount it to the clamp but I used a little bit of superglue to get a smooth and round bar.
I printed everything in Prusament PETG with 0,4mm nozzle and 0,20mm layer height. 15% infill will do. 3-4 perimeters minimum recommended.
The Fireflies sit magnetically in their mounts (very strong magnets!) that are delivered together with the lights.
After assembly just snap the Mount on top of the fender about the middle at the highest point.
To attach the mounts for the fireflies you may use the provided rubber bands or screw them in like I did.
This is the place where I attached the Lumos remote to. On the left handle bar next to the stock indicator switches. Good to be reached by my thumb.
Disclaimer: I am not associated with Lumos helmets or Segway Ninebot in any way. I am just a highly satisfied customer. I bought all parts mentioned here with my own money.
Please show me your results and send me fotos of your makes. I like to see how you use this model. If you have ideas for improvement don’t hesitate to send them to me in the comments. I will try to incorporate your suggestions and will modify the model for special needs if you ask me to do so.
And of course a like ♥ or a rating ⭐ of the design are always welcome.
happy printing, clamikra
