Description
This is yet another sleeve that attaches an AirTag to your Apple TV 4K remote. This one is better (IMHO) because it's relatively slender, it puts the AirTag on top so the remote still rests flat on a table, and also because it orients the AirTag with the speaker facing outward so its chirping isn't muffled. The asymmetric shape makes it easy to orient the remote in your hand in the dark.
It works with the 2022 3rd generation “Siri” remote. It probably fits the 2021 2nd generation Siri remote, but I don't know, because marauding children abducted ours just hours before I thought of attaching an AirTag.
My sleeve is inspired by Bird2Brain's AppleTV4K Remote+Airtag. I used atuos_user's Apple Siri Remote 2021 and Hayabusa's Apple AirTag 3D models to design it, both from GrabCAD. I thank all three creators. I used Fusion 360. The .f3z and .STEP files are included, if you want to tweak the design.
UPDATE 2023-09-23 We've used it for a few weeks, and it turns out the AirTag can pop out if the remote is dropped. I redesigned it to hold the AirTag tighter. Use the v8 version instead of v7.
I used PETG for its flexibility. 0.2mm or 0.3mm layer height, 0.4mm nozzle. It works best printed pointing up as shown in the last photo. On my printer, PrusaSlicer's organic supports on the build plate only (tree supports in Cura) and no brim gave the best surface finish on the butt end.
To assemble, put the AirTag in first, white side up, and press it into place with a thin non-scratch tool through the USB port. Then slide the remote in to hold the AirTag in place. If your printer is dialed in exactly like mine, the sleeve is just tight enough to hold the AirTag in place.
