Description
A standard 1” sch 40 PVC pipe will fit snug in the top-end recess-fit. If the fit is exposed to air, you can also secure it to the pipe either permanently with PVC solvent, or temporarily with duct tape to prevent air leaks. The (12) axial guide vanes serve to block objects larger than ¼”, prevent inlet flow rotation, and resist flow vortex formation for more reliable flow.
Performance: The bell practically eliminates the inlet suction loss with a gentle turn-radius and reducing inlet velocity to almost 20% of original value. It would also be less likely to vortex or become blocked with debris due to the lower velocity. My effort is to block salamanders and floating debris.
Scaling: The attached STL file is for the 1” PVC pipe size, but you can scale this Part in Slicer. Just divide your pipe OD by 1.315 to get the scale ratio (1.315” is the actual 1” PVC pipe OD). Just make the entire Bell larger by that ratio.
Printing: Bell bottom placed flat on bed plate and printed with no fill and no supports. Use variable .15 to .20 quality layer height to get smooth bell inner surface. Mostly std settings. Use materials that can withstand abrasive wear like PETG w glass or carbon, or a spray coating. I used ASA for weathering and will experiment with abrasive coatings.
