Update: I finally managed to print the model and made some refinements. Be sure to use tree supports for the inner section, and double-check that all components are scaled correctly to match the dimensions of an 8 cm Mini DVD. Occasionally, the files may import at the wrong scale and will need to be adjusted to 3937.01%. With these adjustments, the case should now securely hold the disc and snap shut as intended.
For the Europeans out there do you remember those classic PS One CD cases?
I sure do.
This design is a modern reinterpretation, created as part of a personal side project:"The PiStation 2.” Imagine a PS1.5 powered by a Raspberry Pi 4 that runs on Mini DVDs, just like the GameCube.
It’s a concept I’ve dreamed of for a long time.
The outer shells are intended to be printed using an SLA printer with transparent resin to replicate that iconic jewel case aesthetic. You could also try with transparent PLA but you will need to tweak your printing settings.
The inner tray can be printed with dark PLA for contrast. Once I have my own 3D printer, I plan to go even further and build a custom console case—complete with mounting points for a Mini DVD drive. A true DIY dream.
So yeah, give it a download, print it out, and tell me what you think after you’ve had a chance to try it.
