This is the first lovecraftian being I've made, and the only one I can, at least, guess its size. Ghroth is not from the hand of H. P. Lovecraft himself, but it was created by Ramsey Campbell. Campbell's works are often considered as part of the circle of Lovecraft mythology. Ghroth is a moon sized outer god, wandering between stellar systems. When it approach an inhabited planet it triggers the awaken of the Greats Old Ones (like Cthulhu on Earth), leaving chaos and destruction on the planet.
To make this model, I took everything I could take from the descriptions and artworks. It seems to be a rocky or iron body, not in hydrostatic equilibrium, but nearly ellipsoid, so I guessed a size between Vesta (600km) and the Moon. For the "grooves" and valleys I used a texture of an human skull with sutures. I add some mountains and volcanoes, using a topographic map of the Olympus Mons of Mars. For the eye I used some photos of my own right eye, modelling it separately and later merging with the rest of the body.
The file's names explained: name_1_x_10_y.stl is 1 : x* 10y. So _1_6_10_7 is 1:60000000 or one in 60 million.
I spend part of my time making these models, letting them available and free for everyone. If you want to support my work you can buy me a coffee in Ko-fi:
