As I design and prototype in the field a lot at random moments, I wanted to have a small set of tools on hand. This set gives me the ability to draw, write, prototype and digitize anything I could design. For the moment I keep it in my backpack, but I might store it some place else in the near future.

Features

• 4 spaces for pen-like tools. Spaces are custom made for my tools, but I tested (and confirmed) that little pieces of tape inside the hooks can make them smaller to fit slightly smaller tools.
• Bottom shell custom fillable. I used 10mm thick foamrubber padding and cut out the desired shape, then glued the foam onto the shell. Works like a charm
• Integrated low profile hinges. You only need a small axle (+-2mm, something like a toothpick or welding wire works perfectly.
• Integrated closing clasp with just enough force to close with authority, without being too firm to open.
• Can be printed on a Prusa Mini in 1 sitting.

Future improvements

For this application, updates will not be necessary, I am very pleased with the result. For other applications however, I will be updating the hinges (decreasing axle tolerance so the box can remain open on it’s own) and perhaps add a second clasp for strength.
