Description

I made this modular system to simulate floating and flying for our ttrpg battlemap needs. The idea is to use a base and a top with a piece of clear tube of variable length. For something like 1 square (or 5") up, you just place the top on the bottom. Any height beyond that requires the appropriate number of inches of tube between top and bottom.

To hold what I consider an essential set, I designed a nest to hold 6 medium bottom-and-top-pairs, two large ones (although a third could be placed upon them easily) and a total of 18 tubes (6 each in 2", 3" and 4". Yes, I'm technically missing 1" tubes).

For printing, I recommend using a layer height of 0.15mm, 3 perimeters and 15% infill. No supports needed.

The tube I used has a diameter of 11mm. If you want to use something else you might have to experiment with scaling the pieces.

For the tubes, I took apart one of those "meteor shower rain fairy light christmas decorations" (like these [affiliate link]: https://geni.us/lighttubeUS) you can find in a number of colors. Those colors are not important for this project, but I love that the "innards" can be used for interesting projects in cosplay and props as well. Just a thought.
