Description
This middle-sized pill box is improved with thicker sides to enhance durability; a removable roll-top makes it easier to replace once the main box is glued; a magnetic closure to help keep the roll-top closed; and larger pill slots for those big pills.
The model uses 1 M2x5.7 hex screw, 1 M2 threaded insert, and 4- 3x1.5 round NdFeB magnets (Amazon). My name will not be on the model; however, you can add your own. One side will have the day of the week indicated on one side, but you can extrude that out in Fusion 360 or whatever 3D program you use. .STEP file provided for mods.
Open .3MF file and print parts individually (usually a good idea).
There is 1 .3mf file specifically for the Prusa XL. To print the “side plate” in 2 colors: for this- "import project" in Prusa Slicer, then export it to USB to print. If you just “import model” you will not have the best settings for the XL. All the rest of the files will work for any printer.
Printing .stl recommendations: Print Main body and side panel at 25% grid infill with 4 perimeters. Main body needs to be printed on its side see .3mf file, and side panel needs to be printed track side up. Print roll-top and mag-block at 100% infill. Mag-block needs to be printed top up or it may not look great. Use organic supports if possible.
Ensure the model prints cleanly, or you may have roll-top slide issues if the track isn't free of print debris (strings-boogers).
Remove supports in the hole with a punch if necessary (hole in the back of magnet locations).
Melt in the threaded insert (use a soldering tip to go in 80% of the way and use a hard, flat surface to send it the rest of the way).
Glue the side plate to the main body with super glue and then clamp for 45 minutes (use glue sparingly to avoid any overflow in the track).
Remove the clamps, then insert the roll-top cover to the full open position.
The magnets press-fit in, but you can add glue if you prefer (it will be tight initially) ultimately you will need to glue the magnets in. Adding the magnets to the roll-top can be tricky, so I inserted the roll-top and pushed it in fully so there is support while press fitting in the magnets. ***Ensure Magnet polarity is precise when installing the magnets; otherwise, you'll have to push them out and re-install, which can be frustrating if not done right the first time.
Press fit the remaining magnets to the “Magblock” ensuring proper magnet polarity (after installation the roll-top should attract to the “MagBlock”, and then using the M2 screw, attach the mag block to the main body.
Enjoy your new pill box! They hold up well.
