Description
A friend asked if I could upgrade a couple of his old Milwaukee tools to use M18 batteries. Here are the instructions for anyone who wants to do this as well.
Printed parts:
2x v18 parts
1x M18 side
hardware:
2x 6 inch pieces of wire, ideally red and black, 10 guage
5x m3x30
1x m3 x15
blue blade connectors
Instructions
disassemble and clean the old tool, de-solder the original battery connector.
Solder the wires to the trigger, crimp and solder the blade connectors. Insert them into M18 side. It is a good idea to test the connections at this point.
It is important to remember, the M18 battery protections requires both a m18 tool and m18 battery. This drill will run on a 12v battery, If you run an M18 battery below 15v it will likely never recover.
3rd party M18 battery sometimes have low voltage protection built in.
The blade connectors may over heat and melt the plastic if used for long stretches.
Reassemble the tool, and lay out the printed parts. There are alignment tabs to hold everything in place.
No permanent modifications are done to the tool, you could always re-solder the original terminal onto the tool.
This adapter holds up to use, but dropping the tool with a battery on it will break the adapter.
I included the files for a stronger version using #6 bolts and a tapered furniture nut. Step files included.
