Description

I wanted to add additional lighting that wasn't at the top of the enclosure or moving with the effector. This is intended for use with my wiring-friendly covers found here, as well as top cover spacers such as these (although any of the available variations should work - just use the wiring risers on all 3 corners).

BOM:

Lights (6mm narrow neon strip) - 5m is plenty for all 6 strips. I chose natural white. I also chose 24v, which I would not recommend. When the hot end is being heated the lights flicker. Using 5v or 12v with a buck converter should resolve this. (I'll update w my solution for 24v lights once I have one.)

Switch (Dimmer knob w rotary switch) - This is admittedly expensive, but is small enough for the space given, is fully dimmable, can handle the voltage range, and has a very satisfying click/quality feel.

Wiring - You'll need to solder the lights to your connectors (pay attention to polarity). I used this (dupont/jsc crimp terminal) kit, as well as some of these (2pin Xh2.54 extensions). While most of the printer is JST I would recommend using dupont on the light wires, as that may save you time pulling the wiring up the legs. JST connectors will require you to remove all of the screws in each channel (if you go this route do one light at a time).

Notes: 1) All photos are with just these lights, effector led and neopixels are off. 2) If you'd prefer a simple yet nice on/off button instead of a rheostat you can use the cover found here which was designed for this button.
