Description
I designed a little device that dramatically improved my success in multimaterial printings
It took me some time to understand, adjust and optimize the Prusa MMU2s. But what remained the most common error in multicolor printing was an unsuccessful loading procedure of a new filament into the extruder. After quite some time of experimenting and adjusting I realized that the cause for this was the PTFE filament feeding tube not being exactly in line with the longitudinal Extruder axis. The shaft of the Festo fitting is too short to align the filament precisely enough. This was the reason for 99% of unsuccessful filament auto loading!
My little device is a snap fit over the festo fitting that aligns the last 20mm of the PTFE filament feeding tube in line with the longitudinal extruder axis. With this little helper 99% of my MMU print finish without errors and no need for ”babysitting” the print process waiting to manually fix the next filament feeding error.
i am really happy with this little device as it improved significantly the rate of successful multicolor prints!
1. V3 for the modified adjustable Extruder idler by @fhartman I like very much and use in my printer.
2. V2 is the universal Model for other models to snap on the Festo fitting
The device has windows so one can see the filament in the (almost) transparent PTFE tube whilst the filament is approaching the fitting.
Printing:
PETG recommend. I did not try PLA. Print the model in upright position. No supports need for the universal V2 model. The bigger V3 may need “paint on supports” for the cut outs in the base of the ,oder for the screw heads. The .3MF and gcode files already include those supports. 15% infill and 3 perimeters will do. 0,4mm nozzle recommended.
Installation
Detach the PTFE tube from the Festo. Rotate the small blue latch of the Festo so that the smaller side points to the front of the printer.
Now gently push the printed support device over the Festo Until the base sits tight on the extruder body without wobbling. The result should look like this:
Please show me your results and send me fotos of your makes. I like to see how you use this model. If you have ideas for improvement don’t hesitate to send them to me in the comments. I will try to incorporate your suggestions and will modify the model for special needs if you ask me to do so.
And of course a like ♥ or a rating ⭐ of the design are always welcome.
happy printing, clamikra
