Description
New in Prusa Slicer 2.6x is a feature called the Text Tool that enables the ability to add text to an object being printed. This means you don't need an external CAD program to add text to a model. You can add text to existing STL files that you are slicing. I took advantage of this technique to add text to the Sample Tags that Extrutim has uploaded with his Filament Sample box. https://www.printables.com/model/212195-filament-sample-box-infill-color-swatch-remix/remixes.
I have uploaded two remixed Filament Label templates based on one of the Extrutim Filament Tag models. There is one for PLA and another for PETG to give you an idea of how I am using the templates. I have also modified the Filament Type in the Slicer settings to match the text. You can easily edit the template files and modify the text for your own filament tags. When you load the template file in PrusaSlicer you will see a line under the Sample.stl line that is labeled Text - Compa…. right click on this line or select the gear then select Edit Text on the popup.
This will open a box on the left side of the model view that is labeled Emboss. This is where you can select the text I have added to the tag and edit it to make your changes. You will see the model change as you edit the text. Be sure and do a Save Project As… before you exit to keep the template from being overwritten.
I have set Height and Depth fields to have the selected font (Segoe UI) fit in the flat area of the tag. The names are a bit confusing as the Height field is really Font size. Depth is how tall the letters will rise above the surface of the tag. If the Depth is too high, it will extend beyond the top of the tag and not fit in the sample box next to other tags. It is possible to set Depth to a negative number to Deboss the lettering below the surface of the tag.
This is how I use the text fields on the Filament Tag.
Company (The company that makes the filament)
Color (The company's name of the color of the filament)
PLA/PETG (The type of Filament. Each template has selected the slicer setting for the filament type to print)
-S (Silky) (I add letters after the Filament Type like PLA-S for modified filament properties)
-T (Transparent)
#000 (A unique number I assign to each roll of filament and write it on the filament spool)
01-01-2023 ( You will have scroll the Text fields to see this entry. This is the date I received the filament)
Experiment with it and you will soon see how easy it is.
