Description
I've always had a problem with normal spool holders. Whenever I want to use a 2kg spool I have to take the old one off my printer, put a 2kg spool holder on, and do it all over again when I'm done. I also wanted to be able to have a 1 and 2kg spool on my printer at the same time. So after a lot of design and tweaking, here's my spool holder.
If you don't care about 2kg spools, this design also holds 4 1kg spools.
The spool holder attaches to the printer by taking the place of the printed parts on top that hold the Z axis rods. Just unscrew the old ones and screw the new ones in place the same way. They function the exact same. I also added a place for a nut on the back of the parts. This is not necessary but just there for anyone who has some extra M3n nuts and M3x18 screws laying around.
The middle post simply snaps onto the frame the same as the normal Prusa spool holder.
I would recommend recalibrating the printers Z axis after you put the new holder on.
If you don't want to take anything off your printer I also made a smaller version that snaps on the frame like a normal spool holder.
Print 2 of the spool holder rods for the original version and 1 for the small version.
The rods just slide in and out of the posts to change the spools.
Any nozzle size will work.
I printed mine with a .20mm layer height.
I would recommend at least a 25% infill.
Both PLA and PETG works great.
Please let me know if you could think of any changes or anything that could make this model better.
I will hopefully be making a MK4 version soon.
Happy Printing!
