The spool is as strong and lightweight as you want (just change infill or perimeters)
vase mode core (various heights),
can handle up to 250g of filament,
with tag to indicate filament type,
with 5 slots on both sides to easy secure filament end tip and one slot to secure filament start tip.
Features:
Customizable strength and pattern (via infill and perimeters)
Easy slots for securing the ends of the filament
Replacable tag with filament type
Lightweight snapfit core
Smallest height (15mm) can handle 100g of filament
Largest height (40mm) can handle 250g of filament
This is just another spool. It can handle up to 250g of filament - so It's ideal for sharing filament with friends. You can take 1kg spool, print 4 spools and distribute remaining 800g into those four spools. And if you already have spools - just split the spool into four batches of 250g.
Why I created this one instead of using existing projects? Because I didn't liked those that are already here - especially how much filament it takes to print. I also wanted all the features in one project.
How to print
Spool plate
set the number of top and bottom layers to 0.
set perimeters to 3 or more
set the infill you want (honeycomb 15% is my favorite)
set Extrusion Multiplier/flow rate to about 108% for better connection of parts and optionally disable Elephant Foot compensation
optionally increase line width for even stronger spools
Spool core
turn on spiral/vase mode
add 2mm brim (you don't have to remove it after printing)
set line width for 0.8mm
Spool tag
easy way is to print it blank and use sharpie to put the filament type
3d printed way:
for MMU/AMS - just add text modifier in slicer - and set different extruder for this element
for single nozzle - you can also add text object in slicer but select “cut” operation
for single nozzle printers you can also create fake MMU printer in Prusa Slicer with M600 code for changing filament and make it color (this is what I did). more info on this method on my Hex ukulele project.
Print two plates and one core for full spool. Add two spool tags if you want.
