Screwable Ball Keychain

You'll get a ball keychain if your printer doesn't print very accurately. You will get a screwable ball keychain with a rotatable and interchangeable center part if it prints accurately.

It is more funny than helpful ;-)

Print Instructions

Important:

• Tested with 0.4 nozzle only.
• Print in PLA or similar rigid filament.
  PETG is too soft and the "lock" deforms when initially broken free!
• Layer height: 0.2

There are two files to print:

• screwable_ball_keychain
  It consists of three parts, which are printed in-place without support. The part called "top" should be printed with 100% infill.
• screwable_ball_keychain-lock
  It is printed separately with support. It is used to lock the keychain.

The easiest way is to use one of the 3MF files with PrusaSlicer:

Postprocessing

1. Insert a screwdriver 1 to 2 mm into the keychain on the bottom and turn clockwise a quarter turn until it clicks.
2. Then insert the screwdriver as far as it will go and turn clockwise again; it should crack again. Now, the middle part should rotate freely.
3. After that, either
   • insert the lock completely to lock the keychain or
   • open it counterclockwise using the lock or screwdriver (inserted 1 to 2 mm) to disassemble the keychain into its components.

Customization

The ball can be decorated with any text or logo. I have added a few examples.

For custom text (PrusaSlicer)

Right-click on the model, "Add negative volume", "Text". Rotate the text vertically and place it at the right height in front of the sphere . Choose the desired font, a suitable height, and preferably a depth of 0.6 mm. Under "Advanced", check "Use surface" and "Per glyph orientation". That's it!
