Description
Lunatic Astronomical's AAG CloudWatcher now has a version that supports the Hydreon RG-9 rain sensor. They have a very good pole mount bracket to attach the AAG CloudWatcher and the optional Anemometer but they do not have a solution to mount the Hydreon RG-9 with them which is the ideal setup.
I found a pole mount bracket that looked like it would work, the Anteenna TW-CR Pole Mounting Bracket (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075WXP655) and designed an adapter for it that would attach the Hydreon RG-9.
The adapter is in two pieces: the bottom piece wraps around the TW-CR and has a hexagon post with a 6.4mm hole through it; the top piece slides onto the hexagon post and the TW-CR is then sandwiched between the top and bottom piece. A ¼ - 20 x 1 ½" (M6x1 40mm) hex bolt then holds it all together along with a couple of washers and two nuts (or a nylon lock nut) to keep the bolts from coming loose.
Because the top piece fits inside the bottom piece and the post is a hexagon as apposed to a circle the pressure of the bolt seems to be sufficient to hold everything together securely using just the one bolt.
If you wanted a more secure connection you could use epoxy and glue the adapter parts to the TW-CR bracket before final assembly. I felt this was not needed and would only complicate things if the plastic eventually deteriorates as it is exposed to the elements.
I printed the adapter using 0.15mm QUALITY settings and Prusament PETG Urban Grey with 100% infill for added strength as it will be going outside permanently. Overall print time was 3h25m and used 13.57 m of filament.
