Description

If you, while 3D printing, sometimes feels a little like Gyro, then maybe the Little Helper is just the art piece you need.

Little Helper was originally designed by the great comic book artist, Carl Barks. He made him to be just as smart and personal as his inventor, Gyro Gearloose. It is actually common that the Little Helper is the one who saves the day in the duck stories.

I made the model to honor Carl Barks, who is still a great and unique inspiration today.

The model has a height of around 20cm (8 inches).

The awesome thing about this model is that, due to the use of aluminium wire, it can be positioned just as you like it. And it looks very lifelike.

I designed the model to look like the design that was in use from around the original Duck Tales years, as I think it is the one with most personality.

Parts:

  • Bulb head
  • Neck
  • Top
  • Body
  • Bottom
  • Left hand
  • Right hand
  • Left shoe
  • Right shoe
  • LED fitting (Optional)

You also need:

  • 2mm aluminium wire
  • Super glue
  • 5mm LED setup (Optional)

Everything is very easy to print. For the head I have used clear yellow PETG, as I think it looks a lot like in the comics. But you can use whatever transparent filament you think fits.

Most parts are easiest to print with a brim. No supports needed.

You will need 2mm aluminium wire for the arms and legs. They should all be cut to around 7-8cm (2.7 - 3.14 inches).

There is a small fitting included for a 5mm led. It is optional to use. I took an led candle, and used the led and electronics from that. Just needed to add longer wires.

The body parts should be glued together (Bulb bottom, Neck, Top, Body and Bottom). If it is not just an artwork, then you may want to glue in the bulb too.

Maybe we should see who can make the most fun Little Helper photo scene? Please submit your creative photo shoots.
