Description

PLEASE NOTE AND READ, AS YOU MAY WANT TO TEST THIS IN A SAFE PLACE BEFORE PUTTING UP HIGH. IF YOU DON'T, HARM MAY COME TO YOUR PET!. PRINT AT YOUR OWN PETS RISK.

Update: 15/1/25:
Since i have uploaded this, its still going strong, with no issues at all!

While i have installed this in my cage and have had no problems with it so far. Please test the perch at lower levels first, just to make sure that the vices on the side work well with your cage and bird, as all cages are different rods on the sides, thicknesses, and strengths along with your birds size. Also its worth checking if your bird dose not freak out over the color your choosing before starting. Plain colors are best.

Info:

This model is a basic Flat perch for my pet dove. She loves flat surfaces more than her rounded perches, as she tends to spend more time in her food bowl with a flat bottom, higher up, or on the ground of the cage. i always felt bad about this that i though it would be good to make a new perch that could be installed higher, so she could see more, and also lie down on.

If you are printing this for other birds other than doves or pigeons please read the "Things to Think about if your printing for other birds "

This is just me talking about testing and some things to consider if this is for your bird. i would recommend reading, but if you just want the print details you can skip

Testing:

There have been no issues at all with the cage i have installed it on ( the dove has been jumping on it , bashing it around and such ) so i feel confident uploading this, as i would hate to see other people birds get injured.

If you use any glue stick, or chemical compound to stick the model to the print bed, make sure it is cleaned well, some birds can react, or eat this. its also worth making sure to clean the perch well as parts can stick into the lines of the print.

PLEASE MAKE SURE IT IS WELL SECURED OR TESTED AT LOW LEVELS BEFORE INSTALLING HIGH UP. You print so at your own pets risk.

Im highlighting these factors quite hard, as i would be devastated if someone else pet where injured because of it. As some people are new to 3d printing, is worth highlighting some the factors they might not be aware of when printing for pets.

Material:
Would recommend printing on PETG but i would leave it outside for a good couple of days to reduce fumes as birds are quite sensitive to fumes.

I would not recommend PLA as most of them are “Biodegradable" and over time will become weaker. All filament dose that, but still but PLA i dont think is a good idea. as well as strength wise but at the end of the day, if you want to use PLA i dont see it being a issue, just remember if its exposed to UV, or other elements it will speed up this process. (as my dove spends a lot of time outside along with the cage)

Printer Settings:

Doves or Pigeon:
Filament: PETG
Print settings : Draft ( Prusa ) or Strength (Bambu)
Reinforce the screw holes with 100% infill for more strength.
If you use my custom tabs, i would recommend 100% infill.
Other settings are the Default
Plate: i would suggest a textured plate for more grip but really matter

Things to Think about if your printing for other birds:
Walls and top/bottom layers :
Doves / pigeons aren't really Crewing birds, they peck or Slap. So Chewing is not a issue. but if you have a larger bird, or a bird that chews like cockatiels, budgies, or other parrots, its worth strengthening the walls, top layers and bottom layers by increasing the amount of layers on each of them. if you are unsure, 100% infill the object and if your bird starts eating the perch, i would recommend strengthening it with more external layers + top layers , or removing it. While PLA and PETG is ment to be “ food safe ”. i would not gamble with your loved pet over this

Whats required:
4x M4 screws, nuts

4x M4 Washers for under stand

You will also require bigger washers if you dont to use the tabs i made.

If your not using the vices i made in the pack you can use big washers. this was my original plan, but there was a cross bar that stopped this. and did not want to cut washers, and loss the structual strength.

How to install:
There are two options.
1.) Put a nut and washer on the underside of the plate at each of the 4 holes
2.) place a bolt, along with washer or the tabs that have been included if you have a cross bar.
I have included a picture to show this ( the tabs shown here where a prototype that failed, so please ignore ) (this is also a picture of the V1)

Custom vices:

The custom vices are built for a cross bar, that may impact a washers ability to clamp on to the cage. as seen bellow

I hope this will suite what you require in a perch. Ive bolted 3 of the screws in, out of the 4, and its very stable. if you maybe able to get away with this as well if you have a weird metal area of the cage.

UPDATE:
1.) V2 has now replaced V1. there is a version with vent holes, to try and stop the poop from amassing so bad on it, but i have yet to try it.

2.) V3 has now replaced V2. Gcodes will be up soon. added a rounded edge to base and top, also made 3 different sizes. i will add the non rounded one on the top when i get time, incase people want a nice flat surface. please make sure that if you print the rounded sides, that there are no over hangs the bird can eat due to the rounded corners. also added a logo, cause why not XD

Upcoming:
Flat Tops, rounded bottoms
Pre-done Gcodes

Here she is enjoying it. if your pet ends up enjoying it, i would love to see your pet using it in the makes!

Have a good one
Satanic Bird

PS if i sound a bit over the top about the warnings and such, ive said it before, just want to make sure no little birdys are injured from it. :)

Update 2/12/24:
Havent had a single issue with it!
