This is a Pull Fid used to splice ropes. It works very well and is very cheap.

all you need is a pack of wire and some electrical tape and you can make many. The black wire shown in the picture worked fine but I reccomend stainless steel.

Wrap the wire tightly around the handle and cover it with tape and you're done
