Description

I found a lot of measuring tools here on printables for metric screws and nuts, but MattG's was by far the best.

Advantage
  • very handy
  • uses the measuring of real screw lengths (4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 25, 30…mm)

The only thing I didn't like so much was the usage of the round-head screws, which you have to glue in.

So I did some small changes on the base for usage of hexagon screws which can't turn while screwing the nut on top. To fix the bolts even more, the holes in the top are small enough to cut a thread in them. If you don't have threading taps (specially a M2.5) you can drill the holes a wee bit larger to turn in the screw by hand and only “cut” the thread with the screw itself. I found it helpful to have the screw really fixed into the tool, so there is no movement when testing the nuts.

At this stage I recognized that the length of the tool is 56 mm and added another 4mm so you have the measurement of 55 mm and also 60 mm at the bottom edge of the tool.

As MattG mentioned at his model you can print the top with a color change for the numbers or just paint the numbers afterwards while print it in only one color.

The added gcode is a very sophisticated setting with a .25 nozzle (only for the small numbers) at .15 layer height and a color change for the numbers (took about 6 hours). To reach a more bearable print time you can set it to .4 nozzle (numbers become a bit crude) and a .2 layer height (no disadvantage at all).

Printed mine in Prusament PETG. There was no glue necessary. Base and top snapped into each other.

 Happy printing
