Description
Hello there this a remix of the famous Moon Lamp for the use with WS2812B Led Strips and WLED (NodeMCU ESP 8266) to controll the LEDs.
Moon Lamp Diameter approx.: 154 mm / 6 in
Hole for the screwable LED Strip Mount approx.: 52mm / 2 in
LED Strip Mount The LED Strip Mount is screwable into the base of the Moon Lamp. The insert can be tightened and unscrewed with a coin.
Brackets for zip ties to mount the LED Strip to the mount are present. Holes in the socket of the mount are used to install the DC barrel connector and the connector for the ESP8266 to controll the LEDs (WLED).
Height approx.: 101mm / 4 in
NodeMCU (ESP8266) case Suitable for a NodeMCU ESP8266 with built in Wifi.
I printed it in Prusament PLA Galaxy Black.
For more details see the WLED tutorial and NodeMCU Thingiverse link.
Modify Fusion360 and Meshmixer (zipped due to the filesize limit of Thingiverse) files are provided so that you can easily modify them.
Things you will need: Soldering Iron, Heat Shrink, Sandpaper, Heat Gun
Components used:* Filament (Moon): https://colorfabb.com/pla-semi-matte-white

Printer Brand:
Creality
Printer:
Ender 3 Pro
Rafts:
No
Supports:
Yes
Resolution:
0.16mm
Infill:
100%
Filament: colorFabb PLA Semi-Matte White
Notes:
Moon Lamp Print Settings:
Layer Height: 0.16mm
Wall Thickness: 1,2mm
Top/Bottom Thickness: 0.8mm
Infill Density: 100%
Print Speed: 50mm/s
Initial Layer Speed: 14mm/s
Print Cooling: 100% starting at Layer 3
Support Touching Buildplate
Support Pattern: Concentric
Support Density: 15%
Support Overhang Angle: 80°
Support Z Distance: 0.32mm
As seen in picture 5 the Moon Lamp only needs support on the inside. You could also try to print without support to save print time and filament. But you would need a powerful part cooling assembly.
My print time for the moon was roughly 60h.
LED Strip Mount: Layer Height: 0.16mm
Wall Thickness: 1,2mm
Top/Bottom Thickness: 0.8mm
Infill Density: 30-40% (That it doesn't warp due to the heat of the LEDs)
Maybe some sanding of the threads is required
My print time for the mount was roughly 5h.
Moon Lamp Stand: Nozzle: 0.6mm
Layer height: 0.28mm
Retraction: 4mm
Support: enabled
You will need 3 pieces to assemble the stand.
Print time per piece approx.: 2h
Post Printing
Your Moon might be a little rough at the bottom and top. Use some sand paper (wet 200 grit and up) until it feels good.
Depending on your printers dimensional accuracy you might have to sand the threads slightly so that you can screw it easily.
