Description
Check out my Youtube video for detailed assembly instructions:
This coin-sorter is connected to a storage box with individual trays for each type of coin, all secured behind a vault door. Aside from 3d printed parts, you will need:
- 5 bearings - 22mm outer diameter, 8mm inner diameter, 7mm high
- 2 metal dowels 30mm long, 5mm diameter
- Note: Dowels can also be 3D printed, if you prefer (Thanks Reee)
NOTE: This is for American currency only

Thanks to Volker, there is a fantastic remix of this design that works with Euro Coins. Please use this link to find and download (and rate 5 stars!):

This model solves all of the complexities of adapting a coin sorter originally designed for 4 coins to work with 8, and it matches the character of the original model. Volker did a fantastic job on this design and he deserves a ton of credit.
Thank you, Volker. Very well done!!!!
UPDATE: November 29th
I am BLOWN away by the response - thank you to everyone for all the amazing support!
I have started work on a Euro version, but given the fact that there are more types of coins to sort, it will require a larger re-design than I had anticipated. (It would be easy to design for another currency with only 4 coins, but more coins presents design challenges).
Once the Euro version is done, it will be much easier to adapt to other currencies with 5-8 coins and I'll be able to push out versions for a bunch of currencies with relative ease.
Also, I received some requests to publish a version without the coin sorter, so it can be used as a simple box with the vault door. I just uploaded files for a plain box in a new folder, creatively named ‘Plain Box (No coin sorter)’.
It has 2 pieces: the box itself and a bottom panel. The bottom panel is optional, but I recommend you use it. The bottom panel is intended to create a small pocket at the bottom of the box which can be filled with miscellaneous material (I used random metal pieces from other projects) and the added weight helps balance the entire thing when the door is open. If you choose to omit the bottom panel, the weight of the door is enough to tip the box when the door is open (which can also be mitigated by putting stuff in the box, but if you want the box to stand up straight while empty, you'll need to add weight at the base).
Lastly, I uploaded the model for the Coin Sorting Vault in .3mf and .f3d formats so anyone can make edits if you are so inclined. I designed this in Fusion 360, although I don't use parametric design features or design history, so consider yourself warned. If you would like another file format, please send me a direct message and I'd be happy to share it.
Thank you, again, to everyone who has reached out or commented. I am truly overwhelmed by all of the feedback and it makes me so happy that people all over the world are interested in this design.
Sincerely, Rocco
