Alternate Panel Hinge Mechanism for lower Astromech Dome Panels.
Designed as replacement for the standard rotating panel hinges. The movement of the panels here include a small horizontal movement to allow a smooth opening from a printed astromech dome.
Hints:
- You can use one or two support arms depending on stability and space
- Use the *slim version only for locations with less space
- Check, if you need the standard orientation stored here or a mirrored orientation. Just mirror the parts in your slicer before printing them if needed.
- I'm using M4x32 screws with self-locking nuts for assembly for the standard edition, the slim version uses M4x17 and M3x25 with self-locking nuts. When M4x17 is not available, M4x20 also works!
- Slim version uses only ONE support arm.
- Drill holes through the hinge mounts to fix them to the dome
- Dry fit before final mount! Best practice:
- Look for an optimal orientation using double-sided adhesive tape
- Also use double-sided adhesive tape on the back of the panels
- Place hinge mechanism in dome, fixed by the tape. Push back the panel arm, so it does not touch the panel.
- Place the panel properly to the dome
- Pull the panel arm forward until it touches the panel
- Check open/close mechanism
- As soon as all is fine, mount the panel to the panel arm using the panel mount
