Description

My sandwich grill's clamping lock broke. Alas. Hence I designed this replacement to hold everything together while making delicious sandwiches.

Printing instructions:

  • Ideally print with PETG/ASA/ABS for temperature resistance and strength.
  • Print parts with the same orientation as the STL files.
  • Print with supports on the bottom piece to hold up the round hinge arms.
  • Print with 100% rectilinear infill.
  • Print one each of the top and bottom parts.

To assemble the two halves, use CA glue (super glue):

  • Insert short lengths (1 cm) of 1.75mm filament into each of the small holes in the bottom piece.
  • Align the small holes in the top piece with the protruding filament.
  • Carefully press the two pieces together so that the filament is mostly pushed out of the bottom piece. Careful not to poke through the face of the top piece.
  • Remove the top piece again and apply some CA glue to the flat surface of the bottom, optionally apply accelerant to the flat surface of the top piece
  • Bring the two halves back together, using the filament and small holes as guides
  • Clamp the assembled pieces until glue is cured
  • Either cut or remove any protruding filament guide.

You need to remove 6 phillips (cross) screws from the top half of the cucina grill. Then remove the black cover part. The plate lock button will probably come away from the body with the black cover. Make sure not to lose this button or its spring. Before reassembling, put the button back in place on the white body part and make sure the plate lock button activates the plate lock mechanism.

The old/broken clamping lock probably came off on its own, and hopefully you didn't lose its spring, but if you did, you can probably use one from a pen. Insert the spring in the new clamping lock, put the other end of the spring into the divot of the white body of the grill and put the hinge arms of the new clamping lock into their slots on the white body. Now carefully bring the black cover part back into place, aligning it with the plate lock button. Fully close and reinsert the 6 screws you removed previously. It may take a couple of tries to keep the clamping lock spring in place while fiddling with the black cover reassembly. Another set of hands might be helpful.

The new clamping lock needs a bit of force to fully engage in the second locking position, but once engaged, it should not come undone.
