Description
Simple cable housings to safely seperate 2 to 7 connections of wires which are connected via cable sleeves. I do this often instead of using plugs, WAGO connectors, soldered connections or Dupont connectors while prototyping. While using the cable sleeve connections the wires should not contact each other so i build this housing. You can even use this for durable connections and you can easily disassemble the connection (just cut off the sleeves or take out the opposite connection).
The housing is designed with OpenSCAD, i uploaded the source file.
In the files you find housings for 2 to 7 wire pairs, with or without overhang of the lid, with or without a undersize of the lid for looser fit, diameters from 4 to 7.5 mm for the inlet. While choosing a suitable housing you should consider that the printers mostly print the holes smaller then designed, so i take a diameter which is at least 0.5 mm larger then the housing of the cable sleeve.
Filenames:
There are a lot of stl-files, which are named following this rules:
A housing named housing_3_4.2_23 means:
3 wires
4.2 mm inlet_diameter (diameter of the sleeve housing)
23 mm length of the housing
A lid named lid_3_4.2_0_05 means:
3 wires
4.2 mm inlet_diameter (diameter of the sleeve housing)
0mm extra withdraw of the lid, so no overhang of the lid
0.05mm undersize of the lid for a looser fit
A lid named lid_3_4.2_4_00 means:
3 wires
4.2 mm inlet_diameter (diameter of the sleeve housing)
4mm extra withdraw of the lid, so a small overhang of the lid for easier disassembling
0mm undersize of the lid for a tighter fit
Printing:
I use use mostly PETG but PLA works also fine
no supports required
at least 3 perimeters
infill not critical
print as shown in the image below and as oriented in the stl - files
If the lid does not fit tight or is loose, try to enlarge or reduce the size of the lid in x-y direction a little in your slicer, you should always print a test pair before printing a lot of housings.
Assembly:
Take the wires and stick them from the inlet into the housing, then and crimp the cable sleeve
Then pull them back
Put the lid on the top
Done :-)
