Version 2 is now available for download!

Version 2 features a sturdier mounting system that clips in place, no more worries about your webcam falling off the printer!
This version also slightly moves the camera back so it has more space around the metal bracket and a .step file is available for your remixing needs.

This is my solution to mounting a C270 webcam to my Neptune 4 Pro.
I have only tested it on my Neptune 4 Pro, but it should fit all Neptune 4 models as they seem to use the exact same plates to attach the Z wheels.

Print settings:

  • Your regular settings should work. No support required. Print it in the provided orientation

Additional hardware:

  • None! This model re-uses the hinge pin and screw from the original C270 foot.

Installation:

  • Remove the rubber stoppers from the C270 hinge
  • Unscrew the small screw and push the hinge pin out from that side (note, this will require force).
  • Make sure the little white piece in the hinge (on the webcam itself, not the foot) stays in place, that piece is important!
  • Confirm that the hinge pin fits in your print without much force required, make sure to insert it from the oval hole side or it wont fit.
  • Attach the webcam to the print using that pin. Note that this time you will require some force, because of that white piece I talked about earlier. Make sure to mount it as shown in the picture below, this ensures the nozzle is roughly centred in the webcam view.
  • Put the screw back in the hinge pin and optionally add the stoppers you took out of the original hinge in step 1. Add a tiny amount of glue stick or double sided tape if they don't stick anymore.
  • Slide the holder over the right side of the X gantry.
    -
  • In your printer settings, rotate the webcam 180 degrees or flip it both horizontal and vertical (same result).
  • Adjust the angle to be to your liking. I personally went for barely seeing the nozzle at the top of the webcam view.

Changing focus:

The default focus on the C270 is too far away and your webcam will be blurry, you will have to adjust this.
I have been told that this no longer works for newer versions of the C270, so your mileage may vary.

  • Remove the front cover, there's a little indent from where you can pull it off.
  • Remove the three screws holding the front of the webcam on and remove the front.
  • Remove the two screws from the circuit board and lift it out from the bottom (rotate around the cable). If a little rubber piece falls out, that belongs on the microphone.
  • Find the little blob of hot glue holding the focus ring in place and remove it (add a drop of any cleaning alcohol and it will pull off easily with a toothpick or other pointy tool)
  • Attach the webcam to your printer, put something in the middle of your build plate (this can be the print head) and rotate the focus ring until it's in focus.
If you can't get it to focus, the lens may be dirty.
  • After focusing, you can re-assemble the webcam by reversing the above steps.

Also check out my Neptune 4 Series X axis belt tensioner stopper, which is fully compatible with this mount.
