Winter Forest Diorama Christmas/Winter Decoration with Animals
The winter forest diorama model provides the following 3d models, made by me:
- 3 different frame parts with cable duct and cutouts to mount small leds on it. Cutouts to make strain reliefs using cable ties. All models are sized, so that they fit on the buildplate of a MK4 and most end user printers.
- bottom: 300X100X15, without cutouts as I did not want LEDs ont he bottom
- top: 300X100X15, with cutouts for LEDs
- side panels 235X100X15 with cutouts
- The cutouts should be in the right sice for the typical micro LED fairy lights. I measured a few different ones of these kind: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B08GKKN248?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
- the parts can be plugged together
- There are two types of the top and bottom. With 0.1 and 0.2 tolerance.
- The printable animals are
- deer
- 2 types of boar (in the end, I used just one)
- fawn
- fox
- rabbit
- owl
The trees are made from twigs out of the real forest. I like the mixture of printed and natural material. And it was fun to collect them with my daughter, before we build the diorama together.
A few tips for printing
- I used ColorFabb Woodfill as Filament for the frame. It looks very nice I think.
- The animals are made from ColorFabb Corkfill. Which I would not recommend. I am sure, you can use any PLA with a nice brown color.
- LOOK CAREFULLY where your Z-seam is. Inside the cutouts for the connection is a big NONONO!
- I printed everything with 0.6 nozzle, so beware of that, if you take my provided .3mf files! They are optimized for 0.6 nozzle.
- If you are unsure, if you want to use the 0.1 or 0.2 tolerance, do a test print. I provided samples of just the connection.
But beware! I did a testprint with standard PLA in Tolerance0.1 - that worked well.
Then I printed the final parts with woodfill filament, which then ended up being very hard to slide the parts together.
If you are unsure, use 0.2 tolerance part (I made them for you ;-))
In my case the surface was rougher with woodfill, and there was stringing in the connection parts.
I do 3d modeling since years, but that is the first model I released to public. So if I missed to give information, please let me know.
