Description
The box fits cheap Chinese airtight 4L grain containers that can hold a spool of filament. This is the first link that came up when searching for an example of such a container, but there are plenty of other AliExpress sellers for them. This model is an exercise in using modifiers in a slicer. It is mostly made of gyroid internal fill, so it both looks nice and prints fast.
If you are wondering about the wall that divides the box, I put it there to make the construction more rigid.
I used a standard 0.4mm nozzle with 0.2mm layers. Any plastic can be used, I printed this in PETG. Slicer settings for the modifiers are as follows:
Modifiers should be placed slightly below their corresponding objects. In addition, something weird happened somewhere in the editing process and the modifier for the box lid got its origin shifted and I was unable to correct it despite all my efforts. Therefore it needs to be set to custom coordinates:
For the box you need just to move it down slightly:
As a reference - the distance between the walls of the modifier object and the recessed finger pull in the lid is 3 mm on all three sides. Just in case your settings are different from mine, you can use this reference to align the modifier correctly:
I have attached two sets of files - one is in the STEP format, which is what I recommend you to use, and another in STL as a last resort if STEP does not work for you for some reason. There is also a Bambu Studio project with all the parts already on the plate.
I have also included a variant of the lid without the mounting pins for the hygrometer holder just in case.
Update: It seems that a narrow part in the front area can cause problems with opening and closing the box if a rigid plastic was used for printing. I have uploaded a straightened version of the model which should not have this issue:
For PETG I still recommend to use the original version.
Update: It turns out that there is another modification of such a cereal container (marketed as 4.5L volume) with slightly different geometry - such a box has straighter walls, but it's a bit narrower at the bottom than the ones I made this model for. So the original model does not fit.
I've uploaded a new variant that fits both container types. It has a streamlined lid geometry, which allows the use of rigid plastics, and modified rails, which now have a triangular cross section instead of a semicircle. This should make the model easier to print.
New files: Folders starting with "Narrow box (4.5L) version". The easiest way is to use the Narrow box.BambuStudio.3mf project. If you are not using BambuStudio, you can try the generic version Narrow box.Generic.3mf. Next recommended are the combined STEP files, where box and lid objects are combined and properly aligned with their corresponding modifiers, so you just need to set the modifier objects to their proper type in a slicer. And as a last resort, there are separate STEP and STL files.
