Description

Designed a bracket enabling the use of an auxiliary y motor to achieve significantly higher speeds on a gen 1 cr-10. I used 2 stepperonline .9° 1.5a motors, but have since read that 1.8° would have been a better choice. After getting input shaper close to where it should be, I was able to squeeze out 400mm/s @10k accel without the glass bed.

Uses 4 m3 (8mm?) screws, two front, two rear. Additional holes on the bottom if you'd like to use those too. You will need a longer belt than stock. Uses the original m4, nylon nut, and idler bearing, I used a very small section of rubber hose between the bracket and nylon nut.

This IS a pain in the ass to install. You'll need to replace the idler bracket (fiddling to get the t-nuts lined up,) remove the bed, get both gears and new motor aligned the best you can, and tension the belt.

The only way I've found to tension the belt is to get the rear tightened up first, then get the front lined up into position, leaving a zip tie hanging loose around the looped portion of the belt. Grab a pair of pliers and grip the top side of the belt nearest the new bracket, then pull the bed carriage toward the pliers. Once the belt is tight enough pull the zip tie tight. (I didn't have a helper at the time so I just used my teeth to snug it up.)

^don't do that…^

Update~ Belt tensioning bracket!!!
