Description

Hi,

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
before printing and using it please read my note of caution with Update 30.08.2024
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

from time to time I burn some incense sticks. I have an incense stick holder where the stick is tilted at an angle. And because it is not very big I often to created a little mess when I tried to clean up the ashes. So because I am lazy I came up with an idea an fired up Fusion360. This stylish looking incense holder is the result, it works so far … and I'd like to share it here.

The incense holder consists of 5 parts:

  1. base part
  2. holder cap
  3. funnel
  4. funnel cap
  5. dish

Print in parameters as you like, nothing special. The funnel must be printed in vase mode with a single wall with 0,4 mm wall thickness. The funnel and the funnel cap can be glued together if wanted.

The incense sticks I am using are about 205 mm long and the wooden end is aprox. 1,2 - 1,4 mm thick. The socket hole in the base is about 2,2 mm in diameter.

After a stick is burned out grab the hole holder, remove the cap from the base part and throw the ashes and the wooden remain in the trash. Ta-Da … no more mess!
Put in a new incense stick, light it up and then put on the cap and funnel.

Printed in ESUN wood PLA on Elegoo Neptune 4 Pro. The funnel part in the pictures is still in “prototype grey” because I sadly ran out of the wood PLA.

Words of caution:
Never leave your incense sticks unattended! Only use straight incense sticks and always make sure the burning stick isn't touching the funnel. The socket in the base part has a depth of about 32 mm, so only use incense sticks with a non-burnable end of 35 mm or more.

Update 14.05.2024

  • added a small dish to make less mess during the change of incense sticks

Update 30.08.2024

  • no change made to the model, just a note of caution
  • I've been using this incense holder and also another model quite heavily. But I noticed that depending on the quality or type of incense stick you use there is a risk for burning down your holder or worse. I recently used a new brand of incense stick and sometimes they do not burn completely to ash and fall of but instead it happend that big still burning/glowing parts fell down and burned holes in my holders. See last two new pictures. Luckily there was no fire but I only noticed it because of a unpleasent smell.

PLEASE DO NOT USE YOUR 3D PRINTED INCENSE HOLDERS (my model or others)                 UNATTENDED.

I myself will not continue to use 3d printed incense holders. I will look out for a nice
one in a more fire resistant material.

Update 04.09.2024

  • uploaded the main parts as a combined stl/step after a report that the provided 3mf files were broken (open edges) and had to be repaired before use. In prusa slicer there is a option integrated to repair it via a “windows repair algorithm”. Just click on the orange warning triangle in the parts list on the right side. For other slicers I can't provide a solution how to fix it inside the slicer because I only use prusa slicer. But the new provided files in stl/step format should slice without problems.

Happy printing!
