Description

It's a bauble card, minus the card! A tight clearance in the um, bauble hinge, good… Anyway, that thing stays rigid until the rings are satisfyingly broken free by the new owner.

Moving on, it's multicolor! I have tested the print thoroughly on a Prusa XL 2T using PLA of the prusament and Protopasta varieties. I used the 0.6mm nozzle on both tools… not ideal for this model so I reduced minimum perimeter width in arachne settings to 25%, pushing it but… Success, it can be done!

A ready to print design, the gcode for this design uses this model. A simple snowflake design on both sides.

XBNC_halfCustom.3mf

You could call this half-classic, snowflake one side, blank on the other, add your own picture or text to the blank side for a personalised present!

Yes, you most definitely can do better than my simple snowflake, with this the freedom is yours… Please post a make! :D

XBNC_hookAndClip.3mf

This is the hook and clip, yeah this took longer to design than the bauble; worth it. Show off a multi-material and functional print in place hinge with less than 2g of PLA. It's  also useful if you want to hang the bauble from a thing…

Notes

1.  Clip attaching the hook to the outer ring should be printed with a material that has relatively good interlayer adhesion. Yes some PLA is weaker interlayer than others... Easily broken, user beware! (Twist away from the ring to remove… Hey I told you, now it's on you!)

2. To re-assemble in a different configuration, or to re-attach the clip, place on a flat surface channel your inner camera repair technician (BE DELICATE! Unless precisely directed force is required🔨), and don't forget to have fun!

3. Select the color or tool you want to use for each body in the slicer, body4 and body1 should be one colour the rest another, well thats my setup, it's up to you really…

Assembly (Breaking the Rings Free)

To break the rings simply rotate the inner rings until the joint moves free of the outer connected ring. Repeat this until all rings and the centre move independently.

Have a look at the images of this post, the bauble can be opened up in its standard config or taken apart (after freeing the rings), then re-assembled into a new config.
