Description
All the pieces should be printed with the flat bit down, ridges up. I uses a .5 mm nozzle, LH doesn't matter much here. If you go much bigger on the nozzle size, you'll probably lose detail on the numbers on the day ring, but I haven't tried it. PLA works good, but you do you. To make the numbers pop out, change filament right before the numbers start printing (I went from black to white at .8mm height).
First, assemble the top by pushing the slider up through the slot and gluing the bone onto it (I use CA glue). Then put the sandwich together; the inner day ring (with the pointy bits) spins inside the top and bottom, which are glued together carefully, so that the day ring will spin freely. Not a lot of “mechanical” joinery here, pretty much all held together with the glue, however I've had no issues on daily use.
You'll notice on my picture and rendering I've got some words there: “Kenai was last fed:” and “AM PM”. The model included has no words or writing whatsoever. I have a single extruder printer and used the method where added the words in a single layer of different color filament. If everything is not aligned perfect it won't work, so I decided to not include it here as it can cause issues if if not This is a good video how to do that. This is NOT ME but it's really easy to follow and uses Tinkercad, just import the top STL file and have a blast…props to @BV3D. I've included a version with the AM and PM in this method. When opening in PrusaSlicer, select import as 3d model (if asked) then select No to the Object is too small prompt, then select No to the Multi-part object detected prompt. This will allow you to easily hide the main disc, print the letters only, then change material, hide the letters, show the disc and continue printing.
Instructions for use:
Every day rotate the day counter to the next day. In the event of less than 31 days, you get to rotate it a little further. Slide the bone to the left after feeding the morning meal, to the right after the evening meal. This ensure no other family members will feed the tricky little beggar any more than they really need. :)
