Description

Inspired by this but wanted something more specific: https://www.selby.com.au/av-distribution/wall-plates/wallplate-recess-box.html

With f360, you can customise:

  • Flange width
  • Hole dimensions
  • Depth at 2 points to angle
  • Side blanks [Configuration] (if mounting to TV bracket or similar) to fill the sides

Depending on depth chosen, you may have room on the walls for keystone connectors or other inputs (I added an aerial connector, but it is an old obscure mount so didn't include it)

I have included a couple of STLs of some different depths with 110x175 hole size. For reference, images show 20(bottom)-40(mid) depth in white (previous version).

The hole for the wall plate is offset to account for the wall plate I had at hand, which needed a bit more room on one side. if you have one like this, you can mirror the stl in prusaslicer to change which side the extra cutouts are on, make sure these still print on the bottom

The wallplate hole is also closed over by a 0.5m blank. This is to both improve stability of the structure while printing and to replace the need for supports in this area. With a sharp knife it can be removed in only a little bit more time than perfectly tuned supports.. but much much quicker and cleaner than badly tuned supports.

Print suggestions:

  • Print in default orientation (side edge on plate, face  vertical) for best strength, mount holes and wall plate holes positioned to all be on the same layers
  • Supports required on bottom for stability, may be required other places depending on printer
  • Brim recommended to aid stability during initial layers
  • 4 walls
  • 20% infill (very little infill actually used)
  • If (wall hole) width is reduced (default 160), you will likely need supports for the section at the top.

Mind the horrible prints in white, its been a while since I printed PETG and forgot to slow it down

Disclaimer/Warning:

  • Put holes in your wall at your own risk
  • Follow local regulations when playing with electricity
  • Power tools are dangerous
  • Don't do what Donny Dont does
