Description
I made a Minecraft chess to print in multiple colors! Inspired by models such as this one by spradlinb, I wanted a flush hinge when closed. This means I give up opening a full 180 degrees, but my kids don't seem to mind and the hinge has held up with them playing with it fairly roughly. I also didn't want to deal with the glue in panels since I have an XL, and I didn't want to use so many magnets or have them visible.
To print this, load the complete 3MF files (or the individual parts and align them) and assign colors to the merged sets of bodies.
The latch dovetail will fit into the front and requires glue to hold.
6x3mm magnets go in the bottom front wall and latch. They should friction fit, or glue if necessary, just make sure they won't fall out if you give this to kids!
Use a piece of PETG filament for the hinge. I pressed it all the way in and then flush cut it off.
Due to the tight corners, I added breakaway feet to the models. Feel free to remove them or add a full brim, but I found these to be effective and easy to remove.
NOTE: PrusaSlicer 2.7.1 throws an error when slicing this, complaining of empty layers and G-code conflicts. I'm not sure what that's about - they printed great.
