Description
A friend asked if I could make a replacement for the head restraint adjustment button for his Skoda Octavia Mk3 Estate (original was lost or broken). An hour or two with calipers and FreeCAD later (and a couple of hours printing and then 5 days' wait for the spring to be delivered over the New Year holiday), and I had a prototype. I'm informed it works well and that I'm owed a beer or two! The purple is because I ran out of black, but he's loving it! In the photos, the black one is the original button (from the other seat). And apparently the 3D-printed replacement button adds value to the car. 😆
Printed in PETG with 25% infill, 3 perimeters and 3 top/bottom solid layers. Both parts printed with the button side facing down and the shaft oriented vertically: supports are required. See the .3mf file (open in PrusaSlicer as project).
The compression spring was from Amazon and cut to a reasonable size. It is 13 mm OD with approx 0.6 mm wire thickness. The OD is important because it has to fit inside the outer button body and you don't want too thick a wire or it will be too rigid. The one from the link above is 0.8 mm thick but still works ok. You may well be able to find a suitable compression spring somewhere else for cheaper (and where you only need to order one), I didn't look very hard.
