Description
This is my take on the Voron 0.2 rear skirt which fits my requirement of having a convenient wired network connection and the spare USB port accessible, and the ports located in places that don't get in the way of the standard cooling fan path or the Z-axis motor. I decided to go with common screw-in panel mount parts rather than a lot of others I've seen that need Keystone type connectors.
It also has a bit more mass to the honeycomb structure so:
The connectors I used didn't have exactly 28mm screw spacing (very slightly under and over,) so I've tried to make allowances on the model for slight differences by widening the screw holes to short slots. (The print pictured is one I did before making this modification.) If in doubt, print the test model and try your connectors, and if there are fit issues then open the included "Voron 0.2 USB-LAN Rear Skirt_adjustable-holes.3mf" in your slicer and make any needed position adjustments to the (negative volume) screw hole parts.
If you're using A Raspberry Pi 4B in your Voron Zero, mounted at the position shown in the photos and with a fan underneath, then an RJ45 extension with a right-angled plug will be needed if you don't want to move the fan. I used this one, which fits well, although the cable is quite thick and doesn't like bending to a small radius.
I've tried to locate the USB port as close to the rear surface as sensibly possible. Normal USB-A plugs fit all the way in, but anything really chunky might have trouble.
Ordinary, straight USB-A panel mount extensions such as this one from the Pi Hut should fit the skirt with no issues. Around 30cm is a sensible maximum length. Or just shorten a longer one if necessary.
For printing, you can follow the standard Voron sourcing guidelines, but I don't think it needs to be followed so rigidly for skirt parts.
20240110: The original “Rear_Skirt_x1.stl” I remixed was for the Voron 0.2, but I couldn't find the GitHub STL link any more, it seems to have been changed for the 0.2r1 model. But I noticed the skirt mounting side holes are slotted in the 0.2r1 model, so I made a quick inclusion of this change in my remix.
20240112: Additional models for 0.2r1, based on feedback from Screase bringing the height difference of the newer part to my notice. Changes partly modelled using FreeCAD. Organised version types into folders.
