Description
When I saw Yuhao Zhu's lead screw covers I realized that I was not the only one who gets grease on themselves when cleaning the build plate, etc from the lead screws. But I really like my front LEDs, so I came up with a design to integrate the two. This is a case of 1+1=10, the LEDs are best mounted inboard of the lead screws and the wires need to be guided behind the shield, so this is much more complicated than either of the base models. And I decided to learn FreeCAD on this project. After several prototypes and restarts of the design, I think this one works well, although it probably can be improved.
To install it use (4) M5x8 button head screws and M5 t-nuts. Put the screws into the holes, then mount to the extrusion, and then push the upper clips into place. It took a lot of force to get it in the extrusions, but it holds tight. The LED strips are 100 mm long and 10 mm wide. The LED wires can be routed through the two lugs into the slot on the backside. The LEDs can be installed either from the top or the bottom.
I have included the FreeCAD file and a step file. The Voron logo is in the 3mf file, and can be removed in PrusaSlicer. I printed in ABS with 15% gyroid infill and a brim. One of the LED power wires would not stay in the slot, so I looped a zip tie through the screw access hole to secure it.
This model has been updated after I found that there is a small interference with the print head when it was all the way towards the front, which of course I had to correct.
