Description
A suspended feeder for feeding slime mold to springtails, for an 11.8 cup mainstays tritan food storage container
This should be printed with supports enabled.
This rests on a small lip near the top of the container, but for best results, you can also use 2 pairs of 1/2" x 1/16" round magnets, with one on the outside and one on the inside, to help support the feeder and hold it in place. I use a bit of museum putty/blu-tac to hold the magnets in place.
The idea is that you suspend the basket over the substrate and place slime-mold covered oats in the basket, and then the slime mold will send tendrils down onto the substrate below, where the springtails can feed on it. But the oats are kept above the substrate, where it's not as much of a problem if they start molding, and they can be easily removed, without worrying about springtails crawling all over them.
