Description

Designed with the support and contributions of the “Recreator 3D” Discord community.

This design uses a router bit as the main cuter. Has support bearings on both ends of the cutter for added support and tool longevity. Uses a small cheap stainless steel ruler as a surface for the cutter to cut against. Without this ruler the plastic wears down fast and will not be able to cleanly cut the plastic. The M3 bolts on the side are used to hold the ruler in place and to adjust the depth or closeness of the cutter to the ruler. The outer two hold the ruler in place and the middle three adjust the depth. You need this gap between the cutter edge and the face of the ruler to be as small as possible without making contact. I tested multiple M3 bolt lengths and ended up using M3x12mm with one (1) washer tightened down as hard as I could. The large flat lip is there to bolt or clamp the shredder to a table or counter. I used a corded power drill to spin the cutter. See pictures for drill details. To get the plastic pieces small enough to fit inside the shredder, I used a pair of tin snips or wire cutters. A large hammer also works well. The shredded pieces pictured are previous failed iterations of this design and are all PETG. Also shredded some PET bottle tops that were left over from my PET filament making. (“The Recreator 3D - MK5Kit : Ender3 - Pultrusion Unit”). The Shredder Can shred PLA, ABS, ASA, PETG, PET, and most importantly, printer poop!

For the main body print orientation , you need to print it on its side where the hole for the router bit is pointing straight up (the position the model is by default). This does two things. First, it keeps the holes/pockets the bearings fit in perfectly round and consistent. Second, it keeps the forces from pushing across the layer lines and causing a potential blowout where the metal ruler is. All models are to be printed in their default orientation after loading them into your slicer.

*** Updates ***

16 June 2024: Added a "ChopSueySlim-BodyV2" that has some minor tweaks. It reduces the amount of supports needed making it easier to print on its side as required. Also removed a little material out of the back side where the forces are minimal to save on some filament needed for printing. All other dimensions are the same. This part replaces the  “ChopSueySlim-Body(Old)”.
