The Gates of Heaven are the main entrance to Pura Lempuyang, a Balinese Hindu temple or pura located in the slope of Mount Lempuyang in Karangasem, Bali. The temple is one of the six holiest according to Balinese belief, and has 3 distinct sections, as it goes higher on the slope of Mt. Lempuyang. The candi bentar (pronounced “chandi bentar”) split gate known as “Gates of Heaven” marks the entrance to the outermost sanctum or section, after climbing some stairs. Further up, there are several staircases with serpent railings leading up to the holier sections, closed for tourists and available only for actual praying (from Wikipedia).
We chose this model as our first to represent Balinese architecture thanks to its world popularity and because it features the typical elements seen in temples and other constructions. It will make a great travel souvenir, without having to queue for hours!
