Description
When installing heat set inserts, a press tool can be a great help to ensure everything is aligned and straight in the end. And if you have a Dremel anyway, the Dremel Workstation can be a very versatile addition to your tool collection in lieu of a dedicated heatset insert press.
This adapter allows you to easily attach your soldering iron to your Dremel workstation, making it a perfect and affordable heatset insert press. And because it uses the standard Dremel mounting option, it can be attached in seconds without requiring any modifications to the Workstation.
| If you build the model and you like it, please consider buying me a coffee. I've put in some effort and created test prints to optimize and document it so it works for you too. Would be great if there was enough coffee at the end for the filament used in this process |
There's not much to say, it fits the Dremel workstation, hopefully your soldering iron too, and I tried my best to add a touch of premium to the design. Print it out, heat set the two inserts and you're ready to go. Just follow the pictures:
And then attach at to the Dremel Workstation and you are ready to go :-)
I modeled the adapter to fit a Weller WP series soldering iron perfectly. Due to its simple circular shape, it also fits many other similarly sized soldering irons with a handle diameter of approx. ~15.5 mm. If you are unsure whether it will fit your iron, simply print out the small bracket and try it out. And if it doesn't fit and you don't want to remix it yourself, message me and I may make a version for other irons or with a more universal mechanism.
I had actually planned to add a hinge to one side of the bracket and also attach clip-in adapters for various soldering irons. Since I need the adapter for this weekend, I simplified it a bit ;-) . Anyway, if you're interested, let me know and maybe I'll find some time to finish the work later.
That is what it will look like for the Weller WP series solder irons that I have tested:
To make it look even nicer, you can print a text or logo on the cap of the compartment. Or construct a tool holder addition to the bottom side of the cap that holds all heatset insert adapters fixed in place. And if you do, please share your models with us!
