Description
If you have an aquarium then you understand the struggle to manage and bend cords. This print safely routes wires over the top of the tank with a visually pleasing, smooth bend.
Revision 2 adds cord keepers with different angles: a horizontal, 90-degree version, and a custom angle version. The designs conform to the same A and B style constraints. I also added a variable to control the minimum wall thickness where the inner-bend and glass come together.
The design file generates two models:
For some combination of values the difference between the two models may be hard to see. The difference becomes noticeable when you use thin glass and/or a wide bend. Below is an example of how the overall size and bend radius can differ:
If you are concerned about aesthetics first then use model A. If you are concerned about the minimum bend radius to prevent cord damage then use Model B.
There will be a large variety in cord and rim size. Thus, I include an f360 parametric design file. Take measurements with calipers for the best results. Here are the customizable dimensions and associated user variables:
| Parameter | |
| Length of the cord keeper inside the tank | h1 |
| Length of the cord keeper outside the tank | h2 |
| Wall thickness | wall |
| Extra clearance so everything slides together easily | tol |
| Cord width and cord thickness (use the same value for round cords) | cord_w, cord_th |
| Glass/Rim thickness | rim |
| Bend radius | radius |
| Minimum wall thickness | thin_wall |
| Angle (above horizontal) | angle |
Thanks for visiting, and enjoy!
Major update: Added two new versions for revision 2. Thanks to https://www.printables.com/@Pozwerty_2313093 for the idea. I added small fillets to edges to help with printability. I also added thin_wall to the list of user parameters.
