Description

Use case

This snap-on lid replaces the simple “gaffer tape” lids that wet wipes typically come with. It solves the problem that the original “lids” don't stick well any more once a couple of wipes have been taken out, which leads to the rest becoming dry and unusable.

Thanks to it relatively large grip on the lid, and thanks to the carefully designed spring mechanism on the lid, it is very easy to open and close and seals the wet wipes tightly in the bag.

Printing

Simply print both parts in the uploaded orientation. No support are needed. I recommend 0.2mm layer height, 3-4 perimeters and 25% infill (although perimeters and infill are not critical).

After printing, carefully break the print-in-place hinge loose by bending it slightly back and forth until the resistance breaks. Depending on how well your extrusion rate it dialed in, that should be easy to moderately hard.

You also need to break the little spring hooks free before you can snap the lid down for the first time. That should be very easy. Just press the legs of the tiny U-shapes together slightly until you feel the leg with the little ball moving. That is it.

Material

This design is successfully tested with PLA, even the little springs work in PLA despite it's rather bridle characteristics. But it might be difficult to remove the snap-plate on the bottom once the bag is empty, to reuse both parts. One or the other snap-hook might break.

Overall I clearly recommend PETG. Due to it's much better flexibility, the lid snaps much nicer with PETG and also the snap-hooks on the bottom plate typically do not break with the two parts are snapped apart once the bag is empty.

Assembly

Remove the gaffer tape lit completely from the wet wipe bag. Insert the bottom plate inside the bag so that only the snap hooks point out. Open the snap lid and place the frame exactly one the snap hooks. Press firmly and straight down to snap the frame one.

To remove it for re-use once the bag is empty, use two flat screw drivers and place them in the grooves on the two long sides. Carefully rotate the screw drivers at the same time, to snap the frame from the bottom place. If you use PETG, you should be able to reuse the lid a number of times.

Your satisfaction is my reward. Please leave a like if you like this design. Or post a picture of your print with a quick review. That really makes my day.

Happy printing!
