Description

Let me start by saying that I really like this dryer, however they really dropped the ball on where the filament exits this drybox. The dryer I'm speaking about is the FIXDRY NT2.

Whoever opted to draw filament out of this dryer perpendicular to the spool clearly wasn't thinking clearly so that is where this modification comes in. It provides an offset exit port so that the filament is drawn off the bottom of the spool and even provides a stop for a PTFE tube to be inserted. I have also provided a template for drilling and cutting the necessary opening for the modification.

You will also need 3 M3-10 flat head screws and a set of drill bits for holes and countersinking the holes drilled.

Begin by removing the rubber grommet from the side of the dryer you want to install this on. Hold the included template for drilling the mounting holes and mark the opening area to be cut out. Once you have cut to opening, round over the sharp edges with a file and countersink where the mounting screws will go on the inside of the dryer. Clean out all/any debris created by the drilling and cutting. Place the 3 screws through the body of the dryer into the printed adapter and lightly tighten them.

Here are the settings that I used:

  • .20 mm layer height
  • .4 mm nozzle
  • 25% infill
  • Rafts: No
  • Supports: No
  • 2 perimeter
  • 3 Layers top and bottom

Note: The template should print on edge but if not, you may need to add a small raft for that only.

I used PLA, but there is no reason why whatever filament you happen to be using wouldn't work.

Update: I have been requested to make an additional version of this for those not wanting to use a PTFE tube. For those wanting to use it this way slice the Version2.stl file using the same settings and you should be good to go!
