Description

I set out to challenge myself by incorporating a "flippy lever" mechanism. This project leans towards the fine and decorative side. As with all my creations, FLIP comes with its own set of considerations, so please review the additional notes below before diving into printing:

Introduction:

I am a civil engineer working in the urban wastewater field. Inspiration is often fueled by sci-fi, space-age, and gaming aesthetics. Consider following me on Instagram (@SMACKMAX_). I try to post all of my prints, renders, and animations to build a portfolio of my projects, often in advance of publishing the models. This way, you can get a sneak peek of what's coming next! 

My design philosophy is designing objects that spark a little excitement. While there are plenty of functional and efficient objects out there, here you will find less practical objects but with more sparkle. 

Many projects were just personal projects at this time; I did not expect this much love. Because of that, they can be complex to print and assemble, so keep that in mind before you print and read the additional notes in the description. Looking at the reviews and makes by others can also help you make that decision. 

Commercial use of the projects is prohibited (unless you are a Commercial R&D partner).

Notes:

  • FLIP is designed to be highly decorative, so treat it as such.
  • A drop of superglue can greatly enhance the stability of the bolts, especially during frequent operation.
  • Operation is simple: push the levers outward to open the doors.
  • Avoid overtightening the bolts to prevent any potential issues.
  • Be gentle with the mechanism to avoid damaging any components.
  • You have the flexibility to manipulate the doors in both open and closed positions of the lever leading to weird orientations.
  • All parts need support (except Link)
  • Some moving parts might need a little sanding.

Required Hardware (writen per bolt location):

  • 4x M4 (4x25mm) Hex key bolt (Attach Link to Lever)
  • 4x M4 (4x40mm) Hex key bolt (attach Handle to Lever) 4x30mm should also work
  • 4x M4 (4x40mm) Hex key bolt (attach Handle to body and grill) upwards to 4x65mm should also work
  • 4x M4 (4x40mm) Hex key bolt(attach Link to Door)
  • 4x M4 (4x30mm) Hex key bolt (attach door to body)

Cumalative

  • 12x M4 (4x40mm) 
  • 4x M4 (4x25mm)
  • 4x M4 (4x30mm)

Print Specifications:

  • Printer: BL A1
  • Design Software: Fusion360
  • Filament: PLA (Fiberlogy Easy Grey, Graphite, and Alien Blue/Green)
