Description

I wanted to mount the Honeycomb Storage Wall on the side of my IVAR shelving, but without screwing into the shelving.  So I wanted to make use of the peg holes.

I also wanted to make it easy to print.  So I made the pegs separate pieces from the mounting bracket, as making it all one piece would require a bunch of messy supports.  Additionally, I wanted to print the pegs and mounting piece so the layer lines are horizontal, for maximum strength.  To make that a reality, I split the pegs in half so they can be printed with horizontal layers (for strength) and without any supports.  Likewise the mounting bracket should be printed standing up, so similarly, the layer lines are horizontal for extra strength.  It's probably overkill, but was a fun design challenge since I'm fairly new to CAD.

I made a few different versions of the mounting bracket to give people flexibility.  I made the part with the pegs that attaches to the IVAR pillars use either 2 or 4 pegs.  Use whichever you prefer.  I also made two versions of the portion that the HSW screws into.  One simply has to slots to press-fit hex nuts into.  If you use this one you might have to play with your spacing to get it to line up with the IVAR peg holes.  I also made a second version that has a long slot for the screws/nuts, so you have flexibility up and down and they don't need to line up perfectly.  Probably the better option as it gives you more flexibility in mounting.

My IVAR shelves are the deeper ones, so I don't know how the horizontal spacing works on the more narrow ones, but thankfully things line up perfectly with the deep ones.  Overall my storage wall is 21 hexes wide and that fits perfectly.

Print Settings

Pegs

  • Print flat
  • 0.2mm layer height
  • 0.4mm or 0.6mm nozzle
  • Enough perimeters to make it solid for extra strength
  • Optionally glue them together.  They don't need it, but are a little easier to work with when glued.

Mounting Bracket

  • Print standing up (should already be oriented correctly)
  • 0.3mm layer height
  • 0.4mm or 0.6mm nozzle
  • Supports are optional for the square inset holes the pegs use

I printed all mine in PETG.
